GEMS - German Engineering Materials Science Centre
The German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) is a central user access platform, where the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht provides a worldwide unique infrastructure for complementary research with photons and neutrons. Instruments using synchrotron radiation are operated at the outstation at DESY in Hamburg, instruments using neutrons are located at the outstation at the FRM II in Garching near Munich.
As part of the Institute of Materials Research, Division Materials Physics, GEMS is a major centre for the use of photons and neutrons in engineering materials science. GEMS replaces the Geesthacht Neutron Facility GeNF (GENF) with the shutdown of the FRG-1 End of June 2010.
