Geesthacht Neutron Facility (GeNF)
The neutron source of the Geesthacht Neutron Facility (GeNF) is the 5 MW swimming pool type reactor FRG-1 providing an unperturbed flux of 1.4·10^14 neutrons/(cm^2·s) which is the second highest neutron flux in Germany after the new FRM II in Garching near Munich. In 2007 the FRG-1 was upgraded with a new cold neutron source yielding a flux increase at the five instruments using cold neutrons of e.g. 40 % at the reflectometer NeRo. On an international scale the instrumentation at GeNF is unique in its concentration on engineering materials research.
