Central Facilities
Common facilities for GKSS staff include the Library and the Technical Centre (workshops) plus “Einsteinchen”, the research centre’s own kindergarten, and the Geesthacht Neutron Source - the research reactor FRG-1.
The research reactor FRG-1 is used by GKSS researchers along with 46 international research groups for the non-destructive examination of materials.
The Technical Centre develops customized solutions for a whole range of requirements, ranging from software and hardware to the design and construction of complete experimental apparatus and pilot systems.
Many of the more than 50 trainees at GKSS complete a programme of certified vocational training at the Technical Centre.
In addition to its normal lending activities, the Library also assists with the procurement and provision of specialized literature and supplies bibliographical information.
“Einsteinchen”, the GKSS kindergarten, provides care for children from two months to six years old.
